FAQs

Here are some answers to questions I frequently receive via email. I figured I could save a lot of time writing the answers here :) However don't hesitate to contact me if these responses don't satisfy your curiousity!

Do you ship to my country?

Yes! I can ship to any country! If for some reason your country isn't accepted as a shipping address, please email me - I've tried to list them all but might have missed some!

How much is shipping to my country/address?

Shipping is based on the weight of the item and location it is being shipped to. Different fabrics weight different amounts, so it really depends on exactly what you're ordering. The easiest way to calculate shipping is to add a bunch of items to your cart and start the checkout process - you will be told the shipping total before you need to commit to anything :)

Do you sell wholesale?

I do indeed sell wholesale for orders of 5m or more of any particular design. For a full pricelist and details please contact me.

Will you be printing <particular design> again? If so when?

Most designs in my collection will be reprinted at some time or another. I don't usually know when I'll be doing so except for a few weeks before hand - it's somewhat on a whim! The only designs I will no longer be printing are:

- raindrops (earlier, 1 colour version)
- poppies
- riverstones
- flowing dots

How heavy/hard wearing is your fabric? Is it suitable for reupholstering some cool vintage chairs I found?

A few people have emailed me with this question and it's a good one! It's hard to describe the weight of the fabric without seeing it, but I usually tell people that it's slightly heavier than patchwork fabric, around 200GSM.

Some of my fabrics are heavier again (like the heavier organic cotton/hemp that Rainy Day is printed on) but they're a long way from traditional upholstery fabrics.

That said I think they'd be suitable for a low traffic chair that mainly just sits pretty in a room, rather than a frequently used dining chair.

Do you have a mailing list?

I do indeed. Join my mailing list to be notified when I'm about to update my shop with new stock: http://groups.google.com/group/kirinco.

I'm interested in getting into textile design myself. Can you tell me a bit about your background and how you got into it?

I got into textile design rather unconventionally. I studied Multimedia at university and have been running my own business doing graphic design & illustration ever since. I became interested in textile design because I was frustrated at the intangibility of my other work. Plus I really loved the creative & technical challenge of pattern design!

In light of that, I can't provide a lot of advice on the things I might have learnt through formal training - information such as how to license your designs or good books/references for how to make a pattern repeat etc. I don't think you need formal training to do what I do but a graphic design background and some common sense is very handy :)

Some great tips on the subject (including how to source a printer) can be found in the comments here.
